Osborne Park hospital expansion
Main entry artworks

Intent of the artwork

The main entry drop off and front of house lobby is an opportunity for an artwork or series of artworks that may include:

  1. An artwork applied or integrated into the entry canopy ‘veil’.

  2. Integrated artworks within the ground plane.

  3. A design applied to the brickwork to the ground level façade.

  4. An integrated artwork applied to the internal bulkhead to the internal front of house lobby (currently specified as perforated metal), or a lightweight sculptural artwork fixed to this location.

The artwork is intended to enhance the existing architectural design and create a distinctive entry experience. The artworks in this location will aid in wayfinding and creating a site-specific sense of arrival without obstructing pedestrian flow.

The artworks should contribute to the visual connection between the two buildings and may be developed as integrated concepts or as separate commissions.

Cultural content

Artworks in this location may reference a Welcome or Acknowledgement of Country, traditional birthing practices and the use of endemic species (for example the Peppermint or Paperbark tree), the importance of water and wetlands of the surrounding area, and the Seven Sisters songline.

The artworks in these locations are not restricted to Whadjuk Noongar artists only, however any artists who engage with the cultural themes detailed above must have cultural authority to do so.

Scope

The scope of these artworks includes:

  • Manipulating or redesigning the current veil treatment, ground treatment, and brickwork.

  • Treatment of the ground plane or introduction of new elements in this location (noting priority of circulation and pedestrian flow).

  • The artist may choose to manipulate existing specified materials, revise the colours, patterns, or introduce new elements within these spaces.

  • The artist will be responsible for the design and fabrication of any elements to be fixed to surfaces such as sculptural components fixed to the internal bulkhead.

  • The artist will be responsible for design only of any integrated components, and the design and fabrication of any new elements introduced into the space (i.e. fixed artworks).

The artist/s will be required to work closely with the architectural design team on these commissions, to ensure the proposal complements the design, complies to Australian codes and standards, and is within budget (budget to be provided in next stage of procurement process).

For design only components artists will be required to submit a digital file and written specifications only.
