kent street weir
The City of Canning invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced Noongar artists and creative practitioners for a series of public art commissions at Kent Street Weir.
As the gateway to the Canning River Regional Park, a new recreational precinct is being developed at Kent Street Weir with the vision of creating an inclusive community space. As part of this transformation, the City is commissioning a series of Noongar artworks to be integrated at prominent locations throughout the precinct.
This place holds deep cultural significance for the Whadjuk Noongar people, who traditionally camped along its shores and relied on the river as a vital source of food, water, and natural materials. It is also recognised for its rich cultural, environmental, and historical values. The artworks will contribute to storytelling and the preservation of Noongar culture and traditions, enhancing the precinct’s sense of place and strengthening community connection to Country.
The artworks are:
A series of integrated artworks within the senior play area (open to all Noongar artists)
A series of integrated artworks within the junior play area (open to female Noongar artists only)
A series of graphic artworks for etching into the path throughout the park
Small scale sculptures for within the park
Artists of all levels of experience are encouraged to express their interest. From the expression of interest received, several artists will be selected to develop concept designs for a fee. The expression of interest phase (this phase) is unpaid.
The Expression of Interest period will close at 5PM 8 December 2025.
Applicants should submit their response prior to this deadline.
