MEETING PLACE

THIS ARTWORK IS FOR WHADJUK NOONGAR ARTISTS ONLY.

Intent of the artwork

The Meeting Place is intended as an outdoor gathering space incorporating seating, shelter, and an Acknowledgement of Country.

The shelter will be a simple canopy designed to provide shade from the sun and some protection from rain. The canopy of this shelter is a canvas for a laser cut or perforated design.

This is an opportunity for Noongar creatives, creative teams or community groups to develop a design and to work in collaboration with the landscape design team.

The space is intended to function as a gathering place in nature, integrating hard and soft-scaping (planting) to create a welcoming environment for community gathering and cultural programming.

Cultural content

The Meeting Place is intended to host traditional cultural gatherings, smoking ceremonies, as well as be a welcoming place for people from all cultures to meet and spend time.

Artists engaging with these cultural themes must have cultural authority to do so.

Scope

The artist’s scope includes the design of a graphic or pattern for use on the shade canopy. The appointed creatives or creative team will be required to submit a digital file for the final artwork. The landscape team will work closely with the appointed creatives on this project to provide guidance on the requirements for the artwork.

This opportunity is well suited to early career artists, community groups, illustrators, writers, graphic artists.
