Intent of the artwork

Integrated graphics are intended for use across multiple interior spaces including glazing vinyls, wall surfaces, wayfinding elements and applied to surfaces to conceal amenities.

These artworks are intended to contribute to a calming and welcoming environment, enhancing the healing environment while supporting wayfinding and creating visual interest in areas such as lift lobbies, clinical areas, waiting rooms, birthing rooms, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit parent gathering spaces.

Artists will be selected for either Women and Babies Hospital in the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct or Osborne Park Hospital expansion, to ensure each site has a distinctive identity.

Cultural content

Some of the wall graphics may feature cultural content, however this opportunity is not restricted to Whadjuk Noongar artists only.

Cultural content may include the Noongar six seasons and women’s practices within the seasons, as well as cultural birthing practices. Artists engaging with these cultural themes must have cultural authority to do so.

The project acknowledges the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) nature of the communities surrounding both sites. Other cultural themes relating to these communities are also welcome.

Scope

Artists will be responsible for creating a series of designs licensed for use across various applications, with permissions required depending on location and application.

Artists will be required to submit digital files of artworks. The graphics should be designed as both monochrome and full-colour versions. The artworks may need to be repeatable patterns or designs that may be cropped for different uses, dependent on location and the brief provided to shortlisted artists.

Fabrication and installation of the works will be undertaken by others.

These commissions are suited to painters, illustrators, photographers, graphic artists, printmakers and other artists practicing in two-dimensional artforms that can be translated into digital files.

For design only components artists will be required to submit a digital file and written specifications only.
