Women and Babies Hospital
Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct & Osborne Park hospital expansion
fine art commissions
Intent of the artwork
Both hospitals will feature a commissioned series of photographs, original artworks and/or prints for use throughout waiting rooms, corridors and other internal spaces.
These works are intended to contribute to a calming and welcoming environment, helping patients and visitors to feel comfortable.
These commissions may include original artworks, as well as the licencing of works for use as multiples (such as prints or photographs), to ensure all spaces benefit from artworks.
This opportunity enables representation of different regions of Western Australia, acknowledging the diversity of visitors and patients served by the FSH precinct. The artworks will contribute to creating culturally safe and welcoming accommodation.
For Osborne Park Hospital expansion, artworks which reflect a more local context will be favoured, given this hospital will serve a local catchment.
The framed artworks will be licensed with restricted reprint numbers, offering flexibility for future installations. Artists from WA will be prioritised for this commission, which may potentially include painting commissions alongside photography, prints and other wall-based artworks.
Cultural content
Some artworks will feature cultural content, however this opportunity is not restricted to Whadjuk Noongar artists only.
Cultural content may include the six seasons and women’s practices within the seasons, as well as cultural birthing practices. Artists engaging with these cultural themes must have cultural authority to do so.
Scope
Artists will be responsible for the creation of the original artworks, any required reproduction, and framing. Installation will be undertaken by others.
These commissions are suited to painters, illustrators, photographers, graphic artists, printmakers and other artists practicing in two-dimensional artforms.
